Affiliate marketing may create you an excellent stream of income and work well for you, but if you’re reading this article, chances are that you are looking to increase your income further and that’s where Google Adsense ads come in.
Affiliate marketing is one of the easiest ways to make money online, unless you have your own products or services that you are selling. Even the best online retailers can benefit from adding an affiliate marketing program because there is probably a complimentary product that you can add to your site.
What is affiliate marketing?
It’s a commission sales agreement between a seller and a merchant. The merchant usually agrees to pay a percentage of any sales coming from the seller. Sales are usually tracked by a special URL that identifies who the seller is. How much the seller is paid depends on the merchant. For high ticket items, it may be only a few percent. For lower priced items it might be up to 75% and sometimes more.
The benefit to the merchant is that the seller promotes the product to potential customers the merchant may never find. This is likely to be far cheaper for the merchant than running their own advertising campaigns.
Methods of payment include pay-per-click, like Google Adwords and Facebook’s advertising models. Pay per lead models pay when someone sends information to the merchant company to request more information and pay per sale, which is the most common method and the one described above.
There are two main considerations when making money from an affiliate program.

1. Enough traffic to your site to convert a good number of sales.
2. A high converting sales page offered by the merchant to close sales on the visitors you send.

Google Adsense Campaigns

Google Adsense campaignsare affiliate marketing programs where you are paid per click. Every time a visitor on your site clicks on an adsense ad, you are paid a percentage of the profit Google makes for running the ad from it’s Adwords program.
There are similarities and differences between Google Adsense and other affiliate marketing programs. To make Google adsense work on your site, you simply place the code generated by Google. Their system looks after everything for you once the code is on your site. Google adsense will decide what ads to place, according to the keywords they find on your site, so you are able to optimize the ads and their value, potentially increasing your revenue. Other affiliate programs require you do a lot more marketing of the product and you are responsible for the kind of product you offer.
Adsense keeps a running total of the amount you receive in commissions and pay out on a monthly basis once you’ve reached a minimum amount. Be aware that if you aren’t running a program in the US, that their minimum payouts are not fairly treated. The perfect example of that is for accounts such as my own, running from Australia, where the minimum payout is $150.00. That’s significantly more than their US payout of $100 when the currencies are currently of equal value. If you don’t have a lot of traffic to your website, you may find it takes a few months to reach the minimum payout, but it does roll over and accumulate until you do.
